Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the System Engineer II will oversee the maintenance, configuration, and support of the District's infrastructure systems, ensuring optimal performance while working closely with the Manager, Information Technology Infrastructure. The District's technology landscape encompasses Microsoft and Linux servers, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 mail, databases, VMware, SAN Storage, on-premise & cloud data centers, and other M.U.D. enterprise applications. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting system and application patching and upgrades cycles, managing infrastructure and application landscapes, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and research & development. Education
- Required - Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; plus three years of related work experience as indicated below. or
- Required - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; plus five years of related work experience as indicated below. or
- Required - Associate's Degree may be considered with significant experience and relevant certification(s).
Minimum Requirements
- Required - Minimum of 2 years of related work experience, and a Master's Degree as indicated above, with project management in the following: - Linux Only: Linux administration, application administration, database experience, and scripting (bash, and Ksh). - Windows Only: Windows administration, application administration, and data center administration. - Data Center, On-Premise and/or Cloud Only: SAN Storage, VMware, servers, fiber switches, and Cloud vendor such as Azure, AWS, or Google. or
- Required - Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, and a Bachelor's Degree as indicated above, with project management in the following: - Linux Only: Linux administration, application administration, database experience, and scripting (bash, and Ksh). - Windows Only: Windows administration, application administration, and data center administration. - Data Center, On-Premise and/or Cloud Only: SAN Storage, VMware, servers, fiber switches, and Cloud vendor such as Azure, AWS, or Google.

- Requirements of the job necessitate availability to respond to and support critical systems 24x7x365 within reason. Candidate is expected to work in or around the District’s service area.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of servers across various environments, including development, test, quality assurance, production, and disaster recovery.
- Collaborate with team members on work assignments, participate in on-call duty support, and engage in matrix resource sharing as needed.
- Provide support for various M.U.D. Enterprise applications such as SAP, GIS, Opentext, Homegrown Apps, Tomcat, JBoss, etc.
- Ensure systems' availability and execute service restoration activities.
- Monitor, identify, escalate, and resolve system performance and capacity issues.
- Conduct preventive hardware and software maintenance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of existing and planned systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common problems with assigned applications and databases.
- Offer escalation support for unresolved help desk issues and provide technical consultation to departmental staff.
- Maintain a broad knowledge of operating systems, software, databases, and hardware. Stay informed about new developments in system hardware and software.
- Install, integrate, customize, configure, and test new software and hardware. Resolve configuration conflicts and errors.
- Assist with Backup/Recovery Administration and Disaster Recovery Support.
- Prepare scheduled and ad hoc statistical and narrative reports; perform information gathering, analysis, and forecasting as directed.
- Ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
- Participate in the rotation of on-call responsibilities for 24x7x365 on-call tree, addressing alarms and outages for multiple systems and applications.
- Job requirements necessitate availability to respond to and support critical systems 24x7x365 within reason. The candidate is expected to work in or around the District's service area and must be available for scheduled assignments outside of business hours.
