You are a person who is passionate about reviewing, analyzing, and accurately assigning dental procedures and diagnosis codes. In the position of Dental Coder, you will be responsible for ensuring all claims are coded and billed appropriately.

About The Position

  • Review, analyze, and accurately assign dental procedure and diagnosis codes (CPT, CDT, and ICD-10) for oral and maxillofacial surgeries, general dental services, and preventive procedures.
  • Ensure all claims are coded and billed appropriately to medical insurance first when applicable, followed by dental insurance, in compliance with payer requirements and organizational policy.
  • Verify documentation in Epic to ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current regulations and payer guidelines.
  • Collaborate with dental providers and clinical staff to clarify documentation or resolve discrepancies related to coding and billing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of dental and medical coding guidelines, payer rules, and industry updates related to oral/maxillofacial and general dental services.
  • Support accurate claim submission and timely reimbursement by ensuring coding quality and adherence to departmental productivity and accuracy standards.
  • Participate in audits, training, and process improvement initiatives to support compliance and operational efficiency.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; formal coding education or certification preferred (e.g., CPC, CPB, or specialty dental coding certification). Education, Experience & Certification Requirements vary based on coding assigned. Accepted certifications from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) include:
    • Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA) · Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-Based (CCS-P)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of dental coding experience, including oral and maxillofacial procedure coding and general dental services.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Epic electronic health record (EHR) systems.
    • Strong knowledge of CPT, CDT, and ICD-10 coding.
    • Familiarity with medical and dental billing workflows, including dual submission to medical insurance first when applicable.
  • Competencies:
    • High attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance.
    • Ability to interpret provider documentation and apply correct codes.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills with clinical and administrative teams.
    • Understanding of payer policies and medical necessity documentation requirements.

Schedules Available for Monday - Friday with Start Times from 6am to 9am CST

Compensation Range

$22/hour+
